TURKISH CINEMA IS IN THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Turkish Cinema is being promoted in the Turkey desk of the Cannes Film Festival which returned to the cinema halls this year and is organized with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) and Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation. The 74th Cannes Film Festival -in which the second film of Semih Kaplanoğlu’s Commitment (Bağlılık) triology, Commitmet-Hasan (Bağlılık Hasan), is competing under “Un Certain Regard” Selection- will be held between 6-17 July this year.

Cannes Film Festival -that is considered as the most prestigious film festival in the world and under which the film screenings were cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 virus, started with screening of the opening film, Leos Carax’s “Annette”.

Cannes Film Festival, which cancelled the film screenings despite having announced its selection, was postponed to this year’s July thanks to the France’s decision on opening the cinema halls.

The 74. Cannes Film Festivali, which took place in social distance and according to the global pandemic condition, will host cinema lovers as well as the industry professionals with the contest, the out-of-contest selections and the film markets.

“Filming in Turkey” Will Be Promoted In Marché du Film’de

In the Turkey desk of Marché du Film which is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Heath and Tourism, Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) and Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation, the most recent as well as work-in-progress level projects of the Turkish Cinema will be promoted under the feature film, short film and documentary genres, and Turkish films will be presented to the international arena.

In addition, co-production and project opportunities -which became quite important for the cinema industry due to information and technology transfer, access to local funding resources, creation of potential markets and development of promotion activities- will too be discussed in the festival.

Also, the “Foreign Film Production Grant” -which entered into effect with the new cinema law and which enables refund of 30% of the expenses made in Turkey by the foreign film producers for the feature films, documentaries and television series that they shoot- will be explained to the international film producers in Cannes Film Festival.

With this grant, it is expected that the competitive power of Turkey -that possesses features of a natural tableland- will increase and Turkey will become one of the significant film shooting hubs.
