The 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival Started!
The festival organized by International Bosphorus Cinema Association with the support of Istanbul Media Academy started with the opening cocktail party held at Beyoğlu Atlas Cinema. At the opening cocktail party – which was held at Atlas Cinema and hosted significant names from the Turkish cinema such as Yüksel Aksu, İsmail Güneş, Mehmet Eryılmaz, Reis Çelik, Mustafa Kara and Faruk Hacıhafızoğlu – of the 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival organized with the motivation of leading the way for development of the Turkish cinema and enhancing cinema of the future, a photograph exhibition called “Istanbul in Cinema, Cinema in Istanbul” and comprised of 40 Turkish Cinema (also known as Yeşilçam) photographs compiled by Burçak Evren, a cinema historian and archivist, from his own special archive took place. Through a private preview made after the opening cocktail, the Canada-Palestine co-production animation film called “The Wanted 18” met with the audience. The festival that will continue for one week will host events, panels and interviews that will welcome celebrities from different disciplines of cinema.
Along with the national and international short fiction films and documentaries, international feature films will also be included in the 3rd Bosphorus Film Festival this year for the first time. The Festival will also host premiers of 11 films which include “Journey to the Shore”, “Our Everyday Life” and “Chasuke’s Journey”. In addition, various panels, forums and workshops that will welcome masters from the film industry will be organized throughout the festival for cinema lovers. In scope of the festival, Susan Batson, the coach of Hollywood celebrities, will also be present and meet with the professional Turkish actresses and actors for the first time to give masterclass trainings.
Turkish premier platform of the world cinema
The 3rd International Bosphorus Film Festival, this year too, will host Turkey premiers of the new artists from the world cinema. Some of the premiers that will take place at the Atlas Grand Hall are as follows:
On 22 October 2015 at 15:00, American director Andrew Droz Palermo’s new film ‘One and Two’
On 23 October 2015 at 20:00, Japanese director Sabu’s film ‘Chasuke’s Journey’
24 October 2015 at 15:00, Italian director Edoardo Falcone’s film ‘God Willing (Se Dio vuole)’
Two special divisions: Contemporary Fairy Tales with Hayao Miyazaki and Reha Erdem Films
The festival embraces two special divisions. The world-famous Japanese manga and anime artist Hayao Miyazaki’s 9 animation films will meet with the audience under the Contemporary Fairy Tales division.
In the other special division that is carried out every year under the title of “A Portrait” at the International Bosphorus Film festival, this year’s guest is Reha Erdem. The director’s two short films called ‘Lost in the Post’ and ‘Bana Yalan Söyleme (Don’t Lie to Me)’ will also be available at the festival which at the same time includes his all feature films such as ‘Kosmos (Cosmos)’ and ‘Kaç Para Kaç (Run For Money)’.
The new artists are being awarded
Istanbul Media Academy which brings new artists to the cinema industry through trainings in technical and creative fields, brings future’s artists’ films into the international arena in the Istanbul Media Academy Young Artists division in scope of International Bosphorus Film Festival.
Istanbul Media Academy which provides its students with the opportunity of professional experience and wide implementation fields through trainings it organizes, collaborates with New York Film Academy for its 4-month directing training and following the training it supports the student to shoot their own short films through the Production Support Grant that it operates together with the Turkish Radio and Television Association (“TRT”).
Certifications to participants of the interviews and workshops
Being a training institution for the young cinema industry lovers, Istanbul Media Academy starts a new tradition in the film festivals for the young people who are interested in the cinema industry. Participants of 7 of those workshops and interviews that will take place in scope of the festival will receive a Certificate of Participation from Istanbul Media Academy. These certificates aim to be the first stage for the young cinema industry lovers’ in their transition to the professional cinema industry.
