68th Berlin Film Festival Turkish Pavilion

The Turkey Desk to be formed in scope of the 68th Berlin Film Festival – European Film Market that will take place on 15-25 February is organized by the International Bosphorus Cinema Association this year with the support of the General Directorate of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Catalogues, DVDs, promotion materials, and screening materials comprised of feature films, short films and documentaries will be distributed at the Turkey Desk which aims contributing to positive promotion of Turkey and promotion of Turkish cinema in international arena, to those who will visit the desk. The Turkey Desk will also host people, artists and professionals from the Turkish cinema industry as well as the Turkish Radio and Television Association (TRT) team.

In the 68th Berlin Film Festival, there are 3 films from Turkey under the official divisions this year. Banu Sıvacı’s first feature film Güvercin (The Pigeon) took its place under the festival’s Generation division, while another first film by the director Burak Çevik, Tuzdan Kaide (The Pillar of Salt), took its place under the Forum division. Didem Pekün’s Araf (Limbo), on the other hand, found a place under the Forum Expanded division.

The project called Bir Nefes Daha (When I​’m Done Dying) from Turkey by Nisan Dağ was selected for Berlin Co-production Market division -under which the Berlin Film Festival supports the work-in-progress projects-, while Selcen Ergun’s project called Kar Ve Ayı (Snow and the Bear) was selected for the Script Station program. For the Berlinale Talents division, Turkey’s art director Mediha Didem Türemen, director Toprak, actress Elit İşcan, screenplay writer and director Selcen Ergun, and actress Begüm Akkaya were selected. 250 people who were selected from all around the world for this division will join several training programs, seminars and workshops between 17-22 February.

Turkish Cinema and Series Industry Is Talking In Berlin!

The “Millions of Stories from Turkey” event organized by the International Bosphorus Cinema Association and supported by both Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and TRT, will take place with the participation of Turkish screenplay writers and content creators. The speakers who will focus on the cultural wealth and the potential of diverse stories within Turkey throughout the panel, are comprised of Timur Savcı, Derviş Zaim and Bülent Turgut.

Another event organized will be the “Turkish Fashion for World Cinema” panel which will be supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Istanbul Ready-Made Garments Exporters’ Associations (IHKIB). The panel aims to bring international cinema producers together with the significant names of the Turkish fashion industry that is blended with Turkey’s historical codes and rich culture, and to form important cooperation. The panel speakers were determined as IHKIB Board Chairman, Hikmet Tanrıverdi, IHKIB Board member, Cem Altan, fashion designer Atıl Kutoğlu, director Ömer Faruk Sorak, and the costume designer Sema Gücer.
