2nd BOSPHORUS FILM FESTIVAL STARTED WITH THE PREMIERE NIGHT
The International Bosphorus Film Festival that is organized for the second time by International Bosphorus Cinema Association and Istanbul Media Academy started with the opening ceremony held at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall on Friday night, November 14th.
The opening ceremony of the 2nd International Bosphorus Film Festival represented by Hande Demirel started with screening of the trailer that was specially prepared for the festival. In the opening ceremony where divisions of the festival were introduced, initially, the first known film of the Turkish cinema history, “Ayastefanos’taki Rus Abidesinin Yıkılışı (Collapse of the Russian Monument in San Stefano)” was screened specially for the 100th year.
Sam French’s Oscar-nominated short film, Buzkashi Çocukları (Buzkashi Children), was screened as the opening film at the premiere night of the 2nd International Bosphorus Film Festival which hosted a number of young actresses including Meltem Cumbul, Janset, Belçim Bilgin and Cansu Tosun, as well as many directors. Thus, a 14-day cinema marathon started with the opening film which won a huge recognition from the audience.
“100th Year of the Cinema ”
Deputy General Manager of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ali Atlıhan, stated that Turkey has one more international-scale festival, and reminded that this year the Turkish Cinema History is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Festival’s General Art Director, Kamil Koç, highlighted how a team of young professionals also including directors and film editors involved in the film production processes started a journey in the 100th anniversary of the Turkish cinema with the notion of establishing a world-wide cinema concept and that the team’s form of foundation is directly related to the phenomena of “ethics, aesthetics and technique”.
All Film Screenings Are Free of Charge!
The 2nd International Bosphorus Film Festival will take place between 14-28 November, and all film screenings will be free of charge. The films will be screened in both sides of Istanbul, Asia and Europe, therefore the spirit of the festival will be alive in the whole city. The films will meet the audience at Beyoğlu Atlas, Majestik, and Tarık Zafer Tunaya cinema halls, as well as at the performance hall of Üsküdar Bağlarbaşı Cultural Center.
