
The Initial Awards of the International Bosphorus Film Festival Met With Their Winners
The winners among 643 short films which have been evaluated in terms of ethics, aesthetics and technique in the 1st International Bosphorus Film Festival organized between 14-30 November with the collaboration of Istanbul Ticaret University, were announced on Sunday night.
Being actualized in the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Cinema with the motto “Anyone Can Shoot a Movie”, the 1st International Bosphorus Film Festival granted its initial awards to the young artists.
After the eliminations done by the jury comprised of names such as Demet Akbağ, Osman Sınav, Ömer Vergi, Peggy Rajski and Mohydeen Izzat Quandour by taking ethical, aesthetical and technical integrity into consideration, the awards were granted in categories of Best Juvenile, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, TESİYAP (Turkish Television and Film Producers Society) Supported Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Short Film as well as Ahmet Uluçay Grand Award with a 50,000 TL prize.
In the award ceremony started with the opening speech of Erdal Tuşunel, the President of TESİYAP, Tuşunel said as follows, and explained the significance of the International Bosphorus Film Festival: “We wanted to create a new evaluation opportunity within our industry. We tried to support this in order to form a cinema consciousness that possesses the characteristic features of our own society, with which will not need to format our social traumas according to the foreigners.”
Ahmet Uluçay Grand Award with a prize of 50,000 TL goes to Patika (Pathway)!
In the first year of the 1st International Bosphorus Film Festival, the grand awards met with cinema lovers. After the following the statement by Kamil Koç, the Festival’s Art Director, as “We allocated the whole budget that we saved for the advertisement and promotion to the awards”, he and Kütahya Tavşanlı Mayor, Mustafa Güler, together announced Onur Yağız as the winner of the 50,000TL grand prize for the movie ‘Patika (Pathway)’.
Nigerian Minister of Culture, Ousmane Abdou, Undersecretary of Minister of Family and Social Policies, Ahmet Zahteroğulları, Family and Community Services General Manager, Ömer Bozoğlu, Kütahya Tavşanlı Mayor, Mustafa Güler, and also Mohydeen Izzat Quandour, Peggy Rajski, Chairman of the Board of Creative Industries Council, Yiğit Şardan, Board Member of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, İlhan Soylu, as well as Muhittin Kandur, Ferhat Bilgin, Meryem Halimi, Ufuk Bayraktar, Chairman of TÜMSİAD, Dr.Hasan Sert, Festival’s Art Director, Kamil Koç, and Hasibe Eren were among the presenters of the awards and the guests of the closing night of the 1st International Bosphorus Film Festival during which also special awards were granted with the support of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), the Association of Creative Industries Council and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
The Children, Too, Won an Award with “Bana Aileni Anlat (Tell Me About your Family)”
During the ceremony organized at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall and presented by Murat Başoğlu, the winners of the short film contest held among the children and amateurs with the theme “Bana Aileni Anlat (Tell Me About your Family)” received their awards. In the same night, Undersecretary of Minister of Family and Social Policies, Ahmet Zahteroğulları, and Undersecretary of Minister of Family and Social Policies, Ahmet Zahteroğulları presented to children aged 6 and above their awards, and Ahmet Zahteroğulları stressed the significance of the contest by stating as follows: “I feel quite excited and proud to give children at this age their awards. We, as the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, have specially attached importance to this festival. Art is a mirror for societies. And, family foundation is the basis of the Turkish society. We wanted to plant the inter-family communication and the value of family in our youngsters through these films produced by them.”
